WHRO 's The Scene followed my newest creations, The Cosmo Dancers, from inception through completed bronze in this video. The footage was shot in my studio, home in Williamsburg, Virginia, on location at the foundry at East Carolina University, with Hanna and Jodi Jubran, at the Wells Fargo Bank in the Arts District in Williamsburg, VA, and at the Williamsburg Art Gallery, in Merchant's Square, in Colonial Williamsburg. It's a wonderful splice of life! You get to witness my beautiful daughter, who is not quite 2 years old, at her first bronze pour, and foundry experience, get to know my family and learn a little about my artwork, too! Visit thescene.whro.org to see all the videos The Scene has created. So many wonderful artists, each with their own unique story.
Merrilee Cleveland’s fine sculpture is imbued with a mysterious quality, seemingly both ancient and contemporary at the same time. It is influenced by ancient art, literature, mythology, and cultural studies. It is whimsical, yet sublime. Merrilee Cleveland graduated from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1992 with a BFA in Sculpture. Merrilee's work is lost wax cast bronze.
She has been creating sculpture for over 25 years. After earning her BFA she partnered with a group of artists in Milwaukee, WI to form a full service art foundry. In 2000, she left that business in their good hands and embarked on her solo career as a sculptor. Since then her personal odyssey has taken her across the US and abroad. Merrilee resides in Williamsburg VA, with her husband and their beautiful daughter, born in 2014.
Dawn finds her forever home!
Merrilee is honored to announce that Dawn has been purchased by the City of Williamsburg, VA and has been given an outstanding new home in front of the new Stryker Center.
Click the link above for more information about the Stryker Center. The building was only recently completed. It was built to replace an older version on the same site in City Square, adjacent to the Williamsburg Regional Library. The building houses the City Council Chambers. In between the Library and the Stryker Building is a wonderful parklike area with water feature.
The Stryker Center has meeting rooms as well as exhibit space for artwork inside.
Dawn is a limited edition of 3, with only one remaining casting available. There is a maquette size available as well as a 30" tall version which is yet to be cast.
